Rationale
Network operators are gradually introducing broadband networks to both
residential and business users with different types of services. It is
important for network operators to make use of this network as much as
possible in order to have a very fast return on investment. Hence, all
services which could make use of a high bandwidth are to be considered,
both well known and emerging ones.
The concept of Network Computing is emerging. This includes data storage (both for private customers and business customers), high performance computing, 24-hour maintenance operations, protocol conversion, data file conversion, use of servers to run applications. Associated with this concept there is a value-added service for network operators and as such new business opportunities.
The provision of network computing for residential and business users could be a real business opportunity for network operators.
Objectives
The main objectives of this Project are to address all issues related to
network computing from a PNO perspective. It will consider the implications
of simple (sub-PC) terminal devices and the uses to which such equipment
could be put.
