P403 Enhanced pan-European Supplementary Services

Rationale
The ordinary supplementary services (examples: Call Waiting, Follow me) have not been very successful up to now in Europe. However, in the US these services seem to become very popular as so-called "Class" services. PNOs are implementing digital exchanges in their network and some of them are also planning and developing customised "supplementary services" (some of them based on the idea of these Class services in the US). These services increase the amount of (completed) calls and also improve the competitiveness of PNO's network. Some of them have interest on a Europe-wide level. New services might demand a new generation of terminals (e.g. with display). It is of paramount importance that European PNOs in the development phase undertake common investigations to ensure:

  1. user friendliness on a European level in order to avoid frustration of the user expectation
  2. operation on a European scale, European inter working
  3. a common strong position in the case of new terminal requirements (screen terminal)
